Sigma Phi - meeting on TOMORROW at 7:00 p.m. in A-9 and A-11. Come and congratulate our Homecoming Candidate and Sigma Phi Sweetheart. Bring a new book for the Hibiscus library - The Reef - and gain 1 hr. of community service. You may gain 2 hrs. for 2 new books. Books accepted for primary readers up to high school level.
Our theme for our float will be discussed and the supplies needed for Homecoming. Must be a paid member to gain community and school service hours. Dues - $15 for the year! Orders will be taken for our officer and spirit shirts. Membership spirit shirts cost is $15. WE ARE HAVING FUN!

Finger Imaging In The Cafeteria
Only those who use the finger imaging system will be permitted to purchase lunch in the cafeteria.
All students have had ample time to have their finger imaging done.  Therefore, we will not accept ID cards any longer.  If you wish to have lunch in the cafeteria, please have your finger imaging done first.

ATTENTION:  COLLEGE BOUND 9TH, 10TH AND 11TH GRADERS
The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test)  will be given at MCHS on Wednesday morning, Oct. 15.  This test is an important practice test for the SAT’s and is also the National Merit Qualifying Test.
All regular diploma 10th  graders will take this test.  All college bound 11th graders and Pre-AP 9th graders should register for this test.
To register- beginning Monday, Sept. 15:
Grade 11: -  Register in the Guidance Office.  Cost $14.00   Fee waivers are available for 11th graders with demonstrated financial need.  Check with your guidance counselor if you need a fee waiver.
Grade 10: -  Tenth graders are automatically registered.  There is no charge for 10th graders.
Grade 9:  -  Register in the Guidance Office.  Cost $14.00   Fee waivers are available for 11th graders with demonstrated financial need.  Check with your guidance counselor if you need a fee waiver.
Preparation materials are available in Guidance for students who don’t receive them through their English or Math teachers.
PSAT’s will be sold on a first come- first serve basis.  Once we have run out of tests, we will not be able to sell any more of them.
The deadline for registration is Friday, Oct. 10, or until we run out of tests, whichever comes first.

Ms. Margot Graff has an extensive background in marketing, communications, and employment hiring; including 5 years of coaching basic interview skills and resume writing for teens.  She has tips for students getting ready to interview for colleges, scholarships, and employment.  This will be an entertaining, informative program.  This program is sponsored by the Nina Haven Foundation and we appreciate their support.

Albino, Scholarship Coordination Officer for the United States Air Force Academy and Air Force ROTC will visit Martin County High School Friday, 19 September 11:30 until 12:30.  Students interested in competing for these outstanding scholarship opportunities leading to a career as a United States Air Force Officer are invited to attend!

Horatio Alger Association scholarship programs provide financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have a financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarship criteria also include graduation in the spring/summer of 2008, commitment to pursue a bachelor’s degree, and United States citizenship (or in the process of receiving citizenship).  The scholarships are given to deserving students each year and range in award value from $1,000 to $10,000. Students must submit an online application and visit the website to complete the balance of the required paperwork. All applicants must also provide a photo copy of the front page of their parent’s federal tax return. Visit www.horatioalger.org/scholarships to apply.  Deadline for application is October 30, 2008.

The Wendy’s High School Heisman 2008 application is now available online at www.wendysheisman.com. Eligibility for the application is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school in the 2008-2009 academic year who have at least a “B” grade average and participate in at least one of the 32 sports officially sanctioned by the National Federation of State High Schools.   Completed applications are due by October 1st. The online application must be submitted by the student no later than 5:00 pm, central time, on October 1, 2008.  Each student applicant must have their online application reviewed and confirmed online by a school representative.  Reviewers have until October 6, 2008 at 5:00 pm, central time, to complete their review.


The Martin County Community Foundation Frank T. Cadarr scholarship is a $20,000, four-year scholarship to be awarded to a student in one of the Martin County high schools.  The recipient of the Frank T. Cadarr Scholarship may receive no other LOCAL scholarship awards.  The recipient will be selected based on the criteria of need, participation in school/community activities and grades earned.  The application and personal statement guidelines are available in Guidance.  Deadline for application and transcript request is submitted to guidance by 3:00 p.m. October 1, 2008.

The University of Alabama will be meeting with interested students in the Florida Room on Monday, September 29 at A lunch. 

Florida Southern College will have an information table set up outside of Guidance on Tuesday, October 7th during A lunch.  Students are welcome to stop by to speak to the representative.

The University of Hartford (Connecticut) will be at a table outside of Guidance on Tuesday, October 21st  during A lunch, to speak to interested students.

FAU Honors will be meeting with students on October 8th during A lunch in the Florida Room.  Sign up in Guidance.

Hofstra University (New York) will have an information table set up outside guidance on Wednesday, October 29 (early release day) @ 9:50 to 10:30. 

Florida Atlantic University will have an informational table outside of Guidance on Monday, 10/27 during A lunch.  Stop by and speak to them.

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation offers a variety of scholarships based on leadership, commitment to community and academic achievement.  Visit and apply online at
www.cocacolascholars.org.  Deadline for application is October 31st  2008.
